Video Game Inspired Firearms Purchases

A Note from the Brody K.: I’d like to welcome Matthew G. to The Line as a contributing author. The man has been a good friend for quite a long time, throughout our college days, and assisted several of my own articles during those years. We shared a mutual interest in Kalashnikov-pattern firearms, politics, and emergency preparedness protocols. 

I love video games, more particularly first-person shooters, survival horror and role-playing games. These three genres have been the places, where I’ve found the firearms, I want to own. I’ll be sharing the guns and the games, which have inspired me to expand my horizons as a gun owner, shooter, and instructor. I’ll go over them in the order, in which I played them.

The Makarov

Firearms technology has evolved heavily, since the end of World War II, across all platforms. It is debatable on whether the modernization of firearms became simpler or more complex over time. The materials have certainly changed but, due to optimizations for many different end-user aspects, it seems as if modern designs are more complex by comparison to the preceding models. The 9×18 Makarov handgun has an uncanny beauty about it and is very specifically tailored.

Negligence

Unfortunately, violence has again struck in a school within the United States of America. The news is full of fast-paced, maddening and alienating headlines even after these last few weeks. Quite literally, you can watch nearly every existing faction fight each other while whole new factions split off and join the fray. Politicians have submitted new Federal legislation to renew the Assault Weapons Ban, raise ages for purchasing of specific classes of firearms, and continue to seek a ban on accessories.

Dominance

SIG-Sauer and Glock continue to hold the covers of magazines and the front of web-pages across the internet. For SIG, the headlines consist of the Army’s M17 variant and the “voluntary upgrade” program on “unsafe” P320s in the civilian arena. For Glock, their headlines cover the good and the bad of the new Generation-5 line of handguns. Of course, both issues were met with various degrees of controversy.

Preserving History

Powders are carefully measured and poured into the bores of the rifles. Lead projectiles are set at the bores of the rifled-muskets, tapped in slightly before ram-rods follow, in a clatter, to pack the powder as solid as possible for a consistent burn-rate. The percussion cap is placed over the nipple cone and the hammer is retracted. The rifleman takes aim at the target, steadying the long gun before squeezing the trigger.
