Video Game Inspired Firearms Purchases

A Note from the Brody K.: I’d like to welcome Matthew G. to The Line as a contributing author. The man has been a good friend for quite a long time, throughout our college days, and assisted several of my own articles during those years. We shared a mutual interest in Kalashnikov-pattern firearms, politics, and emergency preparedness protocols.

I love video games, more particularly first-person shooters, survival horror and role-playing games. These three genres have been the places, where I’ve found the firearms, I want to own. I’ll be sharing the guns and the games, which have inspired me to expand my horizons as a gun owner, shooter, and instructor. I’ll go over them in the order, in which I played them.

Solace

As seen in Thunder Roads LA-MS Nov. 2017 Vol. 14 – Issue 10.

Solace: to make cheerful.

On occasion, a trip to the range comes with a desire to relax while seeking quiet entertainment. By far, the most fun that I have during range trips is when I go out shooting .22 LR in some form or fashion. The most annoying aspect of shooting rimfire, with my Tinnitus, is the periodic splattering of blowback from some rounds in semi-automatic rifles. It doesn’t diminish the quality of the experience, though. I challenge myself to take the white from inside the paper target’s diamond or removing clay pigeon chips off a range berm.

Proficiency

As seen in Thunder Roads Louisiana August 2017 Vol. 14 – Issue 7.

If you are willing to learn, you will learn every single day of your life. If you are analytical, you will learn to tell the difference between what is fraud and what is truth. Unfortunately, not everybody is so keen on conscious learning throughout their lifetime. We see this if you were to set down a firearm on the table in front of someone like myself and someone who is wholeheartedly anti-firearms. Quite a few of the latter will be frozen solid with fear of what is nothing more than an inanimate object, and this is common knowledge. But, there is something about this reaction that is somewhat disingenuous.

Decisions on the Dedicated Handgun Pt. 2

As seen in Thunder Roads Louisiana Apr. 2017 Vol. 14- Issue 4.

Since 2013-’14, we have seen a boom on the purchase of single-stack handguns for use in concealed carry. I have walked into many FFLs and witnessed the salesperson or a third-party trying to push a Ruger LCP / LC9(S) or similarly sized handgun off to the customer. I have also met many on shooting ranges and watched what they brought to shoot. Over the last year alone, most of those people stopped regularly shooting those smaller single-stack handguns. In fact, the only single-stack that I’ve seen people retain is the 9x19mm Glock-43, so far. In most of the cases, where one quit utilizing the compact handgun they bought for carry, those handguns were bought based on a “feel good” level and I will explain why.

Constitutional Enforcement

In the wake of the latest firearms control laws implemented in California this past month, you’ll see a large number of pro-firearms proponents bailing out of the state within the final months of the year. Some are fighting “Gunmageddon” by petition and by conceptual design, I should add. However, there are other problems with the state of California, and it’s not just California, but most of the rest of our favorite anti-firearms states. The economies in the states of California, New York and New Jersey are horrendous, to say the least. This is driving many of the anti-firearms proponents out of those states as well. And, with them comes their unconstitutional mindsets and votes.
